Impact Navigators and Core Learning Exchange Unite To Help Meet The Demand For Qualified Professionals In High-Growth Industries

Core
Salt Lake City, UT – 11 July 2016 – In August 2016, Impact Navigators, in an initiative with Core Learning Exchange (Core-LX), will launch their first Career and Technical Education Accelerator Program. The initial HVAC Accelerator Program is a service industry-inspired program driven by the need to fill the HVAC job pipeline with qualified candidates today, while working with institutions of higher learning in developing the technicians, mechanics, journeymen and engineers of tomorrow. The program offers Salt Lake City’s underserved youth a pathway to professional employment.

According to the US Department of Labor, employment of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers is projected to grow 14 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. The DOL reported that in 2015, the national median pay for HVAC technicians was $45,110 per year. This workforce, however, is rapidly aging. Governing.com reports that the average age of personal and household goods repair and maintenance professionals is 51.9, with over 60% of the workforce 45 years or older.

Candidates familiar with computers and electronics and those with good troubleshooting skills will have the best job opportunities as employers continue to have difficulty finding qualified technicians to install, maintain, and repair complex new systems. However, CTE training, the traditional route for young people entering the field, has failed to attract and train new apprentices.

Until now, CTE students have been neglected by education reformers,” says Jeff Katzman, Founder and CEO of Core Learning Exchange. “Core Learning Exchange offers CTE students equal access to the same blended, personalized and competency-based educational technologies that are changing lives in the most successful, student-centric schools.”

“Public-private partnerships fill the gap between where existing institutional programs, government economic development programs and the needs of the industry in today’s challenging environment, are not keeping up,” explains Bill Brown, President of Impact Navigators, a socio-economical entrepreneurship and non-profit consulting firm in Salt Lake City.

“This is the ideal program for launching the M7 Education and Entrepreneur Centerin Salt Lake’s Glendale neighborhood,” Brown adds. “Salmon HVAC, a Davis County HVAC company with a ‘giving back’ culture, is the first partner to support our program with content, mentorship, collaboration and engagement. Core Learning Exchange has proven to be a valued partner; their Mastery Learning Platform enables us to deliver programs that are on target – and on time! We are thrilled to take on this public-private partnership to meet the needs of HVAC companies throughout Utah – today!”
